Wasted space has been transformed into a visual treat that captures the spirit of this gorgeous home.
Before the renovation, the kitchen had a small island bench and an unused alcove. Two-toned aqua laminate clashed with the white tiles that cover the downstairs area, creating a very cold and uninviting space.
Overlooking a canal, the house has beautiful views from the generous open-plan area, which features the kitchen, dining, lounge and family room. Designer Bo Jensen wanted to create a true entertainer's kitchen by keeping the original size but adding more preparation and serving space. "Apart from wanting it to be a statement, the owners asked for a warm and inviting room. The main design consideration was fixing the noise problem." he says.

Ceilings in the kitchen were two storeys high, creating a cavern that echoed. To fix this, Bo lowered the ceiling over the entire area and the wasted space above was turned into an upstairs mezzanine with breathtaking views.
Floors in the kitchen have been changed to timber, reducing the noise level even further, giving the room a warm and inviting feel. The room flows into the open-plan level because big storage cupboards stand where the three walls of the alcove used to be. "Now the kitchen makes a statement. It looks like it's always been there. The stainless-steel appliances and the glass and stainless-steel splashbacks combine with the glass cupboard doors and sparkling granite to create a picture of magnificence and luxury." adds Bo.
